If you’ve been reading my blog, you know I’ve been struggling for the past 6 weeks or so. The number on the scale is not changing. I am becoming obsessed with whatever that number is. And yet, the inches continue to fall off. I’ve now lost 23 inches. That’s 23 inches in 16 weeks – an average of 1.4 inches lost PER WEEK. And while the number on the scale isn’t changing, I’m trying to focus on the number that IS changing.

So, for the next 4 weeks, I’m giving up on the scale. I will not weigh in on Wednesdays. I will not step on the scale. Ok, well I might step on the scale but I’m not going to focus on that being the goal for the week. You know I’ll be honest with y’all about what is going on. But I’m taking a break from the scale for my mental well-being. It’s been too hard to see the number stay the same or go up, despite my increasing workout regiment. I know I’m not making the BEST food choices, but I’m making BETTER food choices.

I’m going to focus on what I can control – what I do with my body and what I put into my body. I’m going to re-examine my routine. I’m going to change things up. I will get through this fork in the road.

Besides, I have that whole pound-for-pound challenge, so I need to kick my butt into gear.

Weigh-in Wednesday will return May 26. Stay tuned.

  1. I so feel your pain – I’ve been plateauing like mad lately and it’s driving me up a wall. In fact I decided no more weekly weigh ins (well, official weigh-ins), rather – every two weeks… I wish I would have taken measurements at the start of my journey – I didn’t – now I’m not sure I want to – stupid chubby gal fear – LOL… Hang in there! That is awesome that you are losing inches – I don’t get it either how one can lose inches but maintain the same weight over weeks… crazy… I just remind myself I’m getting healthier, which is my ultimate goal, more physically active, better food choices – more energy. It’s good to know we’re not on an island all alone – we all struggle with these things, it makes it a little easier to cope with – for me 🙂

  2. It always amazes me how much we can let that darn scale control our thoughts. I have stayed within the same 5 lbs for the last 24 weeks. But I can see so many other positive changes …when we can release the hold the scale has..I when it becomes a permanent change..Good luck…I SOOOOOOOOO feel your frustration!

  3. Inches is a much better gauge than weight/pounds. Because you’ll inevitably be building muscle throughout the process, you can still slim down and lose inches while keeping the same weight. It’s not a bad idea to take a break from the scale or even to weigh-in less often.
